This is a studio portrait of Henry M. Orchard (seated) with a friend, Charles C. Radcliffe, made just prior to both going into service with the Confederate Army.  Both young men served in Company A, 15th South Carolina Infantry Regiment, which was commanded by Charles's father, Captain Thomas W. Radcliffe.  This silver albumin photo was part of an album given by Charles Radcliffe to a lady friend, Maria Louisa "Lula" Georgiana Feaster before the war.
