About Roden Taylor Crain:
Found in 1850 Census, TX, Harrison Co., img. 43. Living near the Edmund Murrell family. Name given
only as "R. T. Crane". He was obviously the owner of a large cotton plantation, the 1850 Slave Schedules
show that he owned 21 slaves.
There is confusion about this man, his name may not be "Roden Taylor".
A "Roden Taylor Crain" is listed in several sources as a veteran of the Texas War of Independance,
and is buried in Valley Mills Cemetery, Bosque Co., TX, where there is a historical marker commemorating
his service and stating that he was born in 1819, died in 1891 after living in Bosque Co. after the
war, and dying there. On the other hand, there is a marriage record of a "Rodden T. Crain" and Mrs.
Cassandra Blankenship in Natchodoches Co., TX in 1842, which seems to fit this 1850 Census, which shows
the wife to be "C. Crane" with three children aged 6, 4, and 3. There are also six children much older
in the household, probably from an earlier marriage. Could there be two "Roden T. Crain"s?
About Cassandra Clark Blankenship:
Blankenship was her married name when she married Roden Crain.
