About Beverly Dotson Hardy:
The following from Nancy Metteauer: "Beverly Hardy came to Arkansas as a child with his parents,
John R. and Charlotte Hardy. He married Melissa E. Baldree, daughter of Hosea Baldree and Charlotte
Madison Baldree, on January 18, 1853 in Columbia County, Arkansas. Beverly Hardy purchased land in
Columbia County in 1856 and 1859. In May 1862, he enlisted as a Private in Company B, 24 Arkansas Infantry
and served until the end of the Civil War. In 1872, B.D. and Melissa Hardy and seven children moved
to Texas with the Baldree family. B.D. and Melissa Hardy first came to Sabine County, but then settled
in San Augustine County. They purchased 100 acres of land in the White Rock Community - what the family
calls “The Old Place” - and built a home in 1887. B.D. Hardy died at this home in San Augustine County.
Melissa Hardy died at the home of their son, Sid Hardy in Shelby County, Texas. Both B.D. and Melissa
Hardy are buried in an iron-fenced area in the old Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas.
Sons George W. Hardy and Floyd H. Hardy are also buried in this fenced-in area." ............................................................................................................

Civil
War Record
Beverly's Civil War Service Record shows that he enlisted with Company B, 24th Arkansas
Infantry Regiment on 12 May, 1862 at Palestine, Arkansas. He is last shown as present with this unit
for the period ending on June 30, 1863, at Palestine, Arkansas. He is also recorded with Hardy's Arkansas
Regiment, which was formed from remnants of the 24th and other units, after part of the 24th Regiment
was captured. He was listed as present on the August, 1863 Muster Roll, at Palestine, Arkansas. The
last record of him, for the Muster Roll of Jan. and Feb., 1864, shows the remark: "Deserted Sept. 15,
1863". Soldiers were often reported as deserted if they were absent for valid reasons, such as being
in the hospital or on leave. On his widow's Confederate Pension Application, filed in 1905, two fellow
soldiers stated in a sworn statement that he did not desert. They state that he served in the unit
until the end of the war. .............................................................................................................
Beverly
and his family moved from Columbia County, AR to Sabine County, TX around 1872, settling in the Rosevine
area. Around 1879, they moved to San Augustine Co., TX, and he lived there until his death in 1900. ..............................................................................................................
