About John Polk Montgomery:

"Polk was born in Agnes, Tx , he and Mertice went to school in Springtown through
the eighth grade for him eleventh for her. He owned a drug store in Springtown that was destroyed by
fire, he then traveled to Amarillo and set up a freighting company, he also filed on 160 acres of land
that is the present 7th St. of Amarillo. Their next move was to Ok. to Indian Territory for the Oklahoma
Land Rush. He filed on another 160 acres and they lived in a dugout, he improved this land, sold it
and went back to Springtown. Subsequently he filed on land in New Mexico in 1914-1918 but eventually
moved back to Springtown where his mother lived and needed him. There is a more thorough description
