About Herbert Joe Harris:

Obituary

Herbert Joe Harris, 78, of Chidester, AR passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle of COPD on June 29, 2021. He was born November 8, 1942, in Rosston, AR to Elta Lee Shipp and Herbert James Harris. He was a retired general contractor who specialized in remodeling historic homes in downtown Camden. He was especially proud of the work he and his son Jack did on the Graham-Gaughan-Betts house and the Elliott-Meek house, both located on Washington Street. He was also a member of the United States Marine Corps and an avid bream fisherman. He loved to play music on his guitar, watch boxing, and go to horse races, and dance with his wife. He was a godly man but did not belong to a church family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and stepfather William Morrell whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Opal Faye Stiles Harris; his children Jack Harris (Jessica) of Camden, AR; Sgt. Jackie Harris (Tina) of Maumelle, AR; Christina Harris Fox of Clarkston, WA; Tina Harris Hamm of Clarkston, WA; Rebecca Harris Gangewer of Lewiston, ID; his step-children Jennifer Ledbetter Herbert (Andrew) of Bend, OR; Mark Ledbetter (Keri) of Garfield, AR; brothers Bob Morrell of Glen Ellen, CA; William Morrell of Chidester, AR; sister Linda Alexander (Don) of Alturus, CA; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many other beloved relatives.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers of OCMC Hospice and to Dr. Braden for all they have done. Memorial services will be held at Holleman Cemetery at White Oak Lake, AR Saturday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m. There will be a gathering at the Harris residence immediately following services and all friends and family are welcome to come.
